David and his Song: A Children’s Cantata: 30th Anniversary Celebration at St Mary’s, Calton

The Arts Project was pleased to include the Children’s Cantata in its Lent Fest 2007 programme.  This was especially important as 2007 marked the 30th Anniversary of these special musical events for primary school children, under the direction of Mgr Gerry Fitzpatrick, Convenor of the Archdiocesan Music Committee. 

The cantata was presented by primary school children from Glasgow and Lanarkshire and told the story of David, his songs, his battle with Goliath, and his reign.  It involved soloists and small groups as well as full-assembly choruses.  Also there was Scots and Irish Country Dancing,  a psalm in Hebrew (by one school) and one in Gaelic (by another), and some schools provided instrumentalists to supplement the ensemble.
