It has been only a few months since the world heard broadcast the remarkable story of Aleksander Kudajczyk, the Polish concert pianist discovered whilst working as a cleaner in the University of Glasgow. The amazingly talented young musician shot to fame almost overnight when he was spotted on a webcam playing the grand piano in the University Memorial Chapel. The story was translated into 36 languages and broadcast around the world. Since then, Kudajczyk has met with sell-out success in venues across Scotland and Lentfest was no exception! An expectant audience packed the large upstairs hall at St Mungo’s retreat, in the Townhead area of Glasgow’s east end, to hear the Polish maestro play his own selection of work by Frederick Chopin. Kudajczyk said: “Growing up in Poland, Chopin was very close to my heart, as the only composer composing solely for piano. His music has had a profound influence on my musical enculturation.” The parish of St Mungo’s is no stranger to hosting classical concerts. In 2007, Glasgow opera singer, Louise MacDonald performed Faure’s “The Song of Eve” in the beautiful church, under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Glasgow Arts Project which is responsible for Lentfest.
