 AGAP Theatre presents
PAUL: A Multimedia Theatrical Experience

Written and Directed by Stephen Callaghan. Musical Direction by Erne Parkin

Celebrating the Bi-Millennium of the Birth of Saint Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, this brand new play, written and directed by Stephen Callaghan (Writer/Director: Feet of Clay [2008]; Passionate Voices [2007]; Director: Radiation of Fatherhood [2004/2005] and The Jeweller’s Shop [2003] by Pope John Paul II) is a contemporary exploration of one of the most enigmatic and inspiring figures in Christian history.

Effortlessly fusing the Biblical story with a modern gothic setting and mixing live theatre with film clips, this production from AGAP Theatre will be their most powerful and entertaining yet.  Set shortly after the death of Paul, the audience is immediately plunged into the tension of Nero’s persecution of the early Christians in Rome.  Telling Paul’s story and celebrating it with songs along the way, Prisca and Aquila reflect on the man who brought Christianity to the Western world, from his early days of persecution the Church, through his dramatic conversion, his relationship with the apostles, Peter and James, his travels and ultimately his martyrdom.

Callaghan’s script is sharp and fast-moving with the right mixture of pathos, thrills and humour to capture a vivid and lasting portrait of the humanity of Saint Paul, whilst also drawing out subtle parallels with issues facing Christians today.  Erne Parkin’s musical score offers a blend of folk rock with a strong Eastern influence.  The production involves a large cast of high quality performers from across the Archdiocese of Glasgow who have come together to make PAUL an experience you will never forget!  If you catch one thing in the Lentfest programme, make it PAUL!
