Lentfest 2009

As Christians across the world celebrated the Bi-Millennium of the Birth of Saint Paul, Lentfest 2009 adopted a Pauline theme. The launch took place in Art in the City, in the heart of Glasow’s Merchant City area, against the stunning backdrop provided by the Saint Paul in Pictures exhibition, displaying the work of a variety of artists, including Jolomo, Sarah Bookless and Brendan Berry. National television news coverage and reports in the press worked alongside our new railway station poster campaign to let people across Scotland know that Lentfest was back and more vibrant than ever!

AGAP Theatre performed a new multimedia theatre production “PAUL”, based upon the life of Saint Paul of Tarsus. The play, written and directed by Stephen Callaghan, with an outstanding musical score and songs by Erne Parkin, attracted the largest audiences across the Archdiocese up to then, with Greg Bonner in the title role. It incorporated video clips which included a cameo appearance by composer James MacMillan. Ahead of the play, Erne Parkin’s musical show “Pauline Pilgrim” toured various venues and allowed audiences a sneak preview of what to expect. Our schools programme drew upon the play to provide drama workshops for young people at St Paul’s High School, Pollok and Turnbull High School, Bishopbriggs, with AGAP working alongside actress Ceit Campbell.

Other organisations and choirs opted into the programme, including Lourdes Theatre Group, The Bearsden Choir and Cathures. We were also able to offer a tribute concert in honour of the late Rev Hugh McGinlay of St Andrew’s Cathedral with music by the St Margaret of Scotland Youth Music Group, which raised a considerable sum of money for the charity Cenacolo for the rehabilitation of people with addictions.

The Film and Faith screening of “Spiderman” attracted a considerable amount of news coverage in the press, carried by a wide variety of publications during the Easter week.
