MARCO MINA CONCERT CANCELLED

The Marco Mina Concert scheduled for tonight at Bar Gandolfi has been cancelled. The Italian guitarist was struck with a fever which has left him unable to travel. Just hours before the performance was due to take place, Lentfest staff were informed that the event would have to be cancelled.

Lentfest Director, Stephen Callaghan said: “We apologise unreservedly for the inconvenience that this may cause to our patrons but the circumstances are unavoidable. As the event is free of charge and unticketed, we have no way of knowing how many people were intending to go but, since Bar Gandolfi has a regular music programme on a Thursday evening, we can only hope that people who do turn up will have an enjoyable evening with alternative music. Naturally, our thoughts and prayers are with Marco Mina for a speedy recovery.”

AGAP to perform the Gospel According to Saint John

Have you ever heard the Gospel According to Saint John read in its entirety?  Did you know that the young actor who became Pope John Paul II used to read it as an epic poem?

The Gospel According to Saint John is a beautifully poetic, dramatically charged work inspired by the Holy Spirit and it tells of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  This year, AGAP sets out to offer a dramatic reading of the entire Gospel text (lasting around 2 hours) from the New Jerusalem Bible which will allow a contemporary audience to savour its message and the beauty of its language.   To do this, we are looking for people who would like to take part in the reading in April 2011, which we hope will take place as part of the programme set to mark the reopening of Saint Andrew’s Metropolitan Cathedral on Clyde Street and will tie in with Lentfest 2011.

If you are interested in taking part in this event, please e-mail us for more information.  No experience is necessary, and no line-learning will be involved, but some rehearsal time will be required in addition to the performance.  Contact: info@agap.org.uk

Would you like to act in our new play?

Auditions  for AGAP’s new touring theatre production for Lentfest, will take place on Thursday 20th and Monday 24th January at 7.30pm in St Michael’s Church Hall, Parkhead.  The play is entitled, “The Turnaround” and is written by AGAP director, Stephen Callaghan.

On the surface, the play tells the modern day story of 19-year-old Adam McClay who is disillusioned with life and tries to end it by throwing himself in the River Clyde.  However, his whole existence is turned upside down when he is rescued by a man called Joshua Davidson who dies in the process of saving him.  The plot tackles many serious issues, as Adam comes to realise that his life really was worth saving.  The script is infused with a mixture of humour and profundity, providing a new parable for our times whilst, at a deeper level, calling to mind the essential elements of our salvation history – the redemption of Adam (a name which means “humanity”) by Jesus Christ.  The play’s premise is inspired by the words of Blessed John Henry Newman: “O Loving wisdom of our God! When all was sin and shame, A second Adam to the fight, And to the rescue came.”

Auditions are open to anyone over 16 years of age.  No experience is necessary.

GCT Carols for Peace

Glasgow Churches Together “Carols for Peace”, which took place at Glasgow City Chambers yesterday, was very inspiring! How good it was to see church leaders from so many different Christian denominations leading us in prayer with the support of Glasgow City Council. The music was very uplifting with the St Mungo Singers leading some powerful seasonal renditions alongside the Rutherglen Salvation Army Band and the Southside Fiddlers. AGAP’s short comedy sketch Continue reading

St Michael’s parish church in Parkhead was packed this afternoon for the Mass with the Artistic Community.
