What’s On Guide to Lentfest 2012

A Message from our patron, Archbishop Mario Conti

Archbishop Mario Conti

Archbishop Mario Conti

Welcome to Lentfest! I am delighted to see the amazing growth and development of the flagship festival of the Archdiocese of Glasgow Arts Project, namely Lentfest.

From small beginnings the Festival has established itself as a regular celebration in the cultural life of Glasgow, a fact made evident by the range of supporters for this year’s events. I wish to acknowledge first and foremost the support of the University of Glasgow, the host for the launch and for many of the events of this year‟s festival, and the media sponsorship of Premier Christian Radio whose efforts will bring Lentfest to an even wider audience.

I wish also to thank for their participation Strathclyde University, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Caledonian University. A special word of thanks should also go to the long-time sponsor of Lentfest, Dumbreck Decorators, whose support from the beginning was essential to the Festival’s growth.

This year’s programme displays a delightful and diverse range of musical offerings. In the area of the visual arts one cannot but highlight the extraordinary exhibition of Stations of the Cross and Resurrection supported by many of Scotland‟s top artists and the travelling production on the Martyrdom of St John Ogilvie will once more bring theatre to communities across the length and breadth of the Glasgow area.

In all of this the Church proposes to a wide audience various aspects of the Christian message; a message which is one of liberation and beauty, of freedom and forgiveness of hope and redemption.

May those themes echo in your own hearts and minds throughout this Lent – throughout this Lentfest.
